Amazing Barn Find—Model T Ford To Tractor Conversion!

Jul 29, 2018 | Farm Equipment Auction, Lambertville, NJ Auction, On Site Auction

Ford’s Model T car is a huge part of American automotive history. On that proud October day in 1908—October 1, to be exact—the first production Model T was completed. Between 1908 and 1927, about 15 million Model T Fords were built, creating a record for the longest automobile production run up until 1972.

During the days of the Model T, people didn’t offhandedly discard things once they were no longer useful or in vogue—they modified them to be of use in a new way. And that’s what you’re looking at here…a Model T Ford converted into a farm tractor.

Back in the day, some doubted that the Tin Lizzie engine could handle the work of a farm tractor; others said that putting tractor wheels behind a Model T didn’t make it a tractor. Well, it appears the skeptics were wrong, and the difference in price between buying a new farm tractor and converting a Model T made conversions quite attractive to farmers. It wasn’t long before companies like Sears, Roebuck and Montgomery Ward began making and selling conversion kits.

During WWII, metal became a valuable and important resource for the war effort, and much of it was melted down and reused. Even today, New Jersey has plenty of scrap metal collection and recycling sites, so a lot of old metal has been lost.

But our barn find here is a rare Model T conversion that has survived, and you can own this amazing piece of Ford farm history. Come on out to the auction on Saturday, September 22, 2018 to see all of the fabulous barn, garage and outbuilding finds from this seven-generation, early 18th-century farm homestead! Auction starts at 10AM, preview starts at 8AM.

You can see pictures and a listing of some of what we’ll be selling on September 22 (outbuildings) and September 23 (house items) on my AuctionZip page (Auctioneer ID# 1070). You can also follow me on Facebook for videos and more pictures as well as on Instagram (@AlfredsAuctions).
